We're Certified Age Friendly!

The town of York was certified age friendly in the fall of 2023. York is a vibrant, coastal community where people of all ages can thrive. Our mission is to make York a more livable, accessible, and inclusive place for older adults while enhancing the quality of life for everyone.

Through community-driven initiatives, local partnerships, and volunteer efforts, we work to improve housing, transportation, outdoor spaces, and social engagement opportunities—ensuring that York remains a welcoming place to live, work, and age well.

Our Focus Areas

✔️ Safe & Accessible Housing – Supporting aging in place with home modification resources and affordable options, referrals, land use consultations and housing webinars.

✔️ Transportation Solutions – Enhancing mobility with accessible transportation options - coming soon.

✔️ Community & Social Connection – Reducing isolation by fostering meaningful engagement and intergenerational programs.

✔️ Outdoor & Public Spaces – Promoting walkability and access to parks, trails, and public areas. Upcoming projects include business threshold ramps, beach ramps, and ADA-accessible picnic tables.

✔️ Health & Well-being – Taking the extra step and connecting residents to mental health services, referrals to Spiritual Care Services of Maine, death doulas, and wellness programs, caregiving support, and local services.
